Here it is, the end of an age.

The long avoided but overdue turning of the page.

The demise of a two-faced hope—

A lifeline and noose, both just pieces of rope

It came like the sudden death of a friend I'd known for long,

Nonetheless a death I knew was coming all along.

The onset of despair that I fought

Hit me later but much harder than I thought.

It took but a tiny trigger

To make the trickle a gush much bigger.

An outpouring of pain, tears, and feelings—

A catharsis I hope is the first step towards healing.

Memories buried deep and bottled up

Suddenly came rushing back up.

Like the words of a half-forgotten song,

A misremembered dream gone terribly wrong.

A helplessness sets in, but a numbness too

As I wait for the strength to pull through, to bid adieu.

I wait for a change tomorrow might bring

For the death of hope can be a terrible thing.
